Research InterestsI am a visiting fellow and associate tutor in the School of Education and Lifelong Learning and a researcher with the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts. My long term research interests are spiritual development and Religious Education. In 2007 I worked with the British Humanist Association to publish a report investigating local authority responses to the addition of secular worldviews to the National Framework for RE. In 2002 I examined the relationship between Citizenship Education and Religious Education through a Farmington Fellowship. I am coordinating the evaluation of the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts' Culture of the Countryside project. In 2007 I carried out collaborative research with the SCVA on projects funded by Enquire, Envision and Museums Libraries and Archives, examining young people's learning, participation and pupil voice in the context of art gallery and museum education. From 2004-2007 I was a Research Associate with the DfES funded National Evaluation of Children's Trusts where I developed an interest in young people's participation and pupil voice. I am Book Reviews Editor for the International Journal of Children's Spirituality and a member of the Association for Children's Spirituality. I am an Associate of the The Keswick Hall Centre for Religious Education. List of PublicationsWatson, J. 2008, ‘Can children and young people learn from atheism for spiritual development?
