Submitted by John Elliott on Tue, 15/04/2008 - 11:52.

I have recently coordinated the submission from the Curriculum Aims sub-group of the New Vision Group (NVG), a national think-tank. It is posted here for the purpose of eliciting comment and discussion.

National Curriculum Framework and BSF

A very detailed document that needs more careful re-reading but for the moment a footnote re BSF. Currently large amounts of money are being invested in rebuilding schools (the last estimate I saw was £45b). From what I can tell architects are under pressure to work fast and this means that they dont have time to do the kind of conceptual and research groundwork that is required to rethink education when they build for next 30 years or so. I have been feeding them your and Michael's Bishops Park study as a model of how they might consult with schools but most say they only have time to work on the relatively technical task of updating buildings to meet current needs.

As a further footnote, under PPP/PFI (yes, I know I go on about it but it is the worst thing about the current government - and that's saying something!) schools are not even being built properly, never mind being built for the purposes of education.
