Audio of a talk given by Prof Alan Rogers on "Training Teachers As Researchers in Adult and Non-Formal Education" as part of the EDU Informal Seminar series.

Abstract: Over the last few years I have been working with a small group of persons developing a training programme for teachers of adults in ethnographic approaches to researching their field of training. We have called this programme LETTER (Learning for Empowerment Through Training in Ethnographic-style Research). This has been particularly focused on adult literacy and numeracy, but it also extends to those who teach farming methods to farmers and health and nutrition to women etc. The programme was trialled in 2006-7 with an international group of trainers in SE Asia which has led to a significant publication Exploring the Everyday, and we are currently half way through a training programme in Ethiopia for adult and non-formal educators. This seminar will outline the work in hand and its rationale and invite comments on the programme and its future development.
