What was the last time you found something eggregiously inaccurate on Wikipedia? And if the biggest problem in education is the occasional inaccurate information what happened to the skills focus of the last decades?

Microsoft kills Live Academic (Google Scholar rival)

I have often recommended academic.live.com by Microsoft as a worthy rival to Google Scholar. At the very least, it was superior in its interface and sorting capabilities. Unfortunately, it provided much less relevant results in the humanities (focusing on more recent publications).

Dabbleboard: Another online whiteboard hits the internets

Digital collaborative whiteboards seem to be the holy grail of educational and presentational services. But by and large, most offerings todate have been less than impressive. Dabbleboard has a lot going for it (primatily simplicity) but will be enough? Personally, I'm more excited about social software used for learning.

Easy online mind-maps

Mind maps are a useful visualisation tool but they are not that easy to create. Text2Mindmap makes it easy to convert a simple tab list into a JPG image. Its greatest limitation is that more complicated maps don't easily fit into one picture.

US mentoring month brings new mentoring webapp

iMantri is trying to harness the power of social networking for mentoring. The problem might be that it isn't clear what the difference between mentoring and coaching is in their view and also, it might be much better as a Facebook app so that people don't have two different places to log in to. All the same, it is not a bad idea. We'll see if it takes off.

Annual novel writing month launches in US

Can never quite get to that novel? Looking for an interesting creative writing project? Why not join the US National Novel Writing Month. Literally thousands of people have written their novels in as part of this project. And they say the Internet is bad for literacy...
