The new photopier in the CARE area has a great scanning feature which basically means that anything that can be photocopied can be scanned into a computer. The easiest way is to have the photocopy sent to your email address. All you have to do is enter your email into the photocopier and the rest is the same as making photocopies. This video shows how to do it.

l Zotero! With what I'm assuming was a small upgrade to the catalogue software, Zotero can now see results on the page of the catalogue and import them into the bibliography with just one click (individually or as a group).

Edupunk against Blackboard, for eLearning 2.0, and what next?

A new term has made its way into the edu blogosphere (such as it is): edupunk. Coined by Jim Groom, it made its way to me via Martin Weller's blog who also shared the excellent Edupunk video (see below). Edupunk spoke eloquent volumes of its potential to me the second I scanned over the word my RSS reader - in fact it got me so excited I started a public Google Notebook with excerpts from the discussion. I believe that destructivism and contrariness are just as necessary parts of the debate as constructiveness and concilliation. So, edupunk is more than welcome on the scene. Let's hope it gets a bit more traction - the Wikipedia entry may help.

Who and how of innovation in educational technology

A very interesting article that asks all the right questions about current trends in educational technology innovation. It implies the central problem which is the essential conflict of interest at the heart of institutional IT services: 1. keep the services running, 2. provide the best available technology to the institution. But 1. is in conflict with 2. IT services get blamed when printers stop working or email goes down so naturally they will prefer to stick to maintaining these basic infrastructures rather than try to innovate.

Research Interests

Ann Shreeve is a visiting fellow in the School of Education and Lifelong Learning and works independently in the field of children’s services and in promoting the use of research and evidence. Her current research focus is children’s services in England, in particular inter-agency governance, joint commissioning, resource management and inter-agency partnership working. She was research manager for the National Evaluation of Children’s Trusts from 2005-2007. She worked on an EPPI literature review of Initial Teacher Education. She was a research coordinator for the School-based Research Consortium project funded by the Teacher Training Agency that focused on secondary aged students in six Norwich schools who were disaffected from learning. She has also published on managing small group learning in classrooms.

She taught in 8-12 middle schools, in the UK specialising in language and literacy. As a teacher adviser with responsibility for co-ordinating the Norfolk Oracy Project she pioneered collaborative approaches to teaching and learning. Later she had a major role in Norfolk local education authority introducing the national curriculum and assessment. She has extensive experience of providing continuing professional development courses for teachers. She has inspected a large number of primary schools and has led school inspections and also been a member of about twenty-five inspection teams as an additional inspector for the local education division and post compulsory education division of Ofsted.

During her career she has been involved in teacher networks that shared good practice and has worked with practitioners to innovate approaches to teaching and learning through action research. She was active in the National Association for the Teaching of English at a local level in Norfolk and nationally as publications director and journal editor. She has worked with several governmental bodies including QCA, OFSTED, BECTa and others; and the Publishers Association on matters related to the teaching of English.

Dr Yann Lebeau is lecturer in educational research. He has previously held teaching and research positions in France (Brest, Bordeaux), in Nigeria (Ibadan) and at the Open University. His research interests lie in the sociology of higher education communities and where higher education and social change intersect. He has done extensive empirical research on the University/society nexus in Africa and in Europe and is a member of several education and development research networks.

Yann is currently involved in a large 4-year ESRC funded project looking at Social and Organisational Mediations of University Learning in the UK, and is co-director of an ESRC-funded study of Regional perspectives on the role of higher education institutions in social transformation.
